33 Charterhouse Street

Situated in the heart of Farringdon, 33 Charterhouse Street is a high-quality office and retail development. Also referred to as The JJ Mack Building, this project contains 206,000 sq ft of commercial space with uninterrupted views of Central London.

33 Charterhouse Street

A defining feature of this project is its commitment to sustainability. This is evident in the building being graded ‘Outstanding’ by BREEAM, one of the longest-running certification bodies for building sustainability. CLM Fireproofing are always looking to gain more experience with sustainable building projects, so we were happy to be tasked with carrying out an in-depth fire stopping project for 33 Charterhouse Street.

As with any building project, there is always a risk of compartments being breached by service providers installing wires, pipes or ventilation systems. When this occurs, we will audit buildings to identify and fix any ‘service penetrations’ so that they are compliant with passive fire protection regulations.

According to Mace, who were appointed as one of the construction partners responsible for delivering this project, 33 Charterhouse Street is set to become one of Farringdon’s first smart building. This involves integrating digital platforms to improve operational efficiency and the design of unique wall and service layouts, which required our team to use bespoke detailing.

As part of our fire stopping strategy, our passive fire protection experts delivered ground-floor beam engagements with bespoke details. This, alongside the fire stopping of service penetrations, resulted in fully-compliant compartmentation to limit the spread of smoke and fire.
