The Building

The Peninsula London will reflect the heritage and grandeur of Belgravia, overlooking Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch. It will compromise 190 luxurious guest rooms and suites, as well as 25 premium residences. Further highlights include an array of bars and fine dining restaurants, a grand ballroom, a wellness spa and leisure facility, and a 1,100 sq m retail shopping arcade.

Fire Safety Partnership

Fire safety is a particular area of concern in the hotel and leisure sector. Considering the size, capacity and overall value of The Peninsula Hotel, a fire would pose a major risk. Therefore, a fire protection system could only be placed in the hands of trusted experts. CLM Fireproofing is experienced in passive fire protection for the hotel and leisure sector. We were brought on board by Sir Robert McAlpine, a leading UK-based construction and civil engineering company and tasked with devising a fire stopping strategy for The Peninsula Hotel.

Our Solution

In particular, CLM Fireproofing was tasked with implementing fire stopping systems across all walls and floors in The Peninsula Hotel. This meant conducting a close examination of features such as joints, rafters, pipes, ducts and cables. The existence of any gaps or openings could potentially accelerate the flow of flames and smoke throughout the hotel. Any openings that could be considered a structural flaw or fire safety risk were sealed by our specialist operatives. In the event of a fire, our fire stopping installations could make the difference between a fire spreading through and being confined to spaces where it could easily be suppressed. This particular project began in January 2021 and is expected to finish in 2023.
