WeWork Blackfriars

WeWork enlisted the services of LTB Ltd, an office fit-out company that offered a demolition package before refurbishing their Blackfriars office. Once the existing fire stopping installations had been removed, CLM Fireproofing was instructed to provide multi-coat intumescent paint to the building’s steelwork.

This project was valued at £1.036m and was scheduled to be carried out between Jan 2020 and May 2020. To meet such tight deadlines, CLM Fireproofing opted to use a two-pack solvent-based intumescent paint. This is because certain solvent-based paints are fast-drying and therefore tend to be more resistant to changing conditions in weather, temperature and humidity. This particular paint was sourced from Nullifire, one of the industry’s leading suppliers of passive fire protection products.

For instance, the project specifications for WeWork Blackfriars involved using a considerable amount of solvent-based paint in an enclosed space. This required our team to implement a heavy extraction plan, so we could keep work areas safe for ourselves and other trades. We achieved this by bringing in sizable Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems. We operated these systems with consideration with tenants and guests on either side of the buildings surrounding WeWork Blackfriars and to prevent the smell of fumes causing any issues with the neighbouring 5-star hotel.
