service overview

Design Consultancy Services

We have a dedicated design consultancy team who partner with clients from the earliest stages of a project, helping to implement Golden Rules, Model Standards and provide firestopping support. As part of our Consultancy offering, CLM have deployed a unique Revit plugin known as NEXUS. It is designed to bring certainty, compliance, and control into the design stage.

Created to support early stage decision-making, NEXUS enables project teams to:

  • Automatically identify areas of non-compliance and define clear routes to compliance
  • Apply manufacturer-tested firestopping details to compliant openings
  • Automate manual processes, reduce repetitive tasks, and free teams to focus on critical decisions
  • Strengthen Golden Thread governance and Gateway assurance

NEXUS is fully supported by CLM’s in-house BIM technicians and technical specialists, providing additional validation, guidance, and assurance throughout the design process.

What You Can
Expect as Part of Our
BIM Consultancy

BIM Assessments with Routes to Compliance

We map and eliminate clashes between services so that Builders’ Work in Connection (BWIC) is fully compliant, reducing rework, last-minute redesigns and change orders. Our system also helps enhance fire protection and reduce risk by identifying and resolving deviations from Golden Rules in builders’ work openings, spatial co-ordination and firestopping design.

Tested Solutions & Ongoing Technical Support

Our experts assess every opening and apply manufacturer-tested firestopping details to minimise risk and engineered judgements. We will offer alternative solutions if tested details are not available and can also identify and assist with testing where applicable.

Model Standards to Enhance Accuracy & Consistency

We define firestopping modelling standards and parameters to improve review accuracy, maintain consistency and streamline BIM coordination. Furthermore, we partner with manufacturers to establish a project-specific rules framework. This is rooted in industry-tested data and sets ideal parameters for asset modelling, installation and fire rating performance.

Detailed Reporting & Handovers

Our BIM consulting delivers a comprehensive package ranging from 2D/3D drawings to RAG-rated BWIC evaluations, helping stakeholders visualize approved works and highlight remaining actions for ongoing fire protection compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is early engagement and why is it important?

Early engagement in passive fire protection is essential for UK construction projects, as emphasised by the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP). Following post-Grenfell recommendations and UK Building Regulations, incorporating passive fire protection expertise during the initial design phase ensures suitable compartmentation strategies and proper specification of fire-resistant materials. This proactive approach reduces project costs whilst helping achieve Building Control approval more efficiently.

02

How can our BIM plugin help your early design?

BIM plugins facilitate seamless integration of fire safety requirements with the Government’s Golden Thread initiative. These specialised tools enable precise modelling of fire-rated assemblies and help maintain proper digital records for building safety compliance. The Construction Innovation Hub UK validates that BIM integration streamlines the documentation process whilst ensuring alignment with BS EN ISO 19650 standards.
