Springfield University Hospital

Project Overview
Springfield University Hospital forms part of a £150m redevelopment within Springfield Village — a major mental health and community regeneration project in South West London.

The scheme includes:

  • Two new state-of-the-art mental health facilities
  • Eight inpatient wards
  • Upgrades to community and outpatient services
  • Integration with new public spaces, parkland and residential development

Given the clinical environment and the sensitive nature of the facilities, robust passive fire protection was essential throughout.

Sir Robert McAlpine appointed CLM to deliver firestopping and compartmentation works across the new hospital buildings.

of
Works.

Firestopping Installation

CLM installed fully tested firestopping systems across the new hospital buildings to maintain continuous compartmentation. Works included:

  • Sealing penetrations created by mechanical, electrical and data services
  • Application of systems suitable for complex service clusters and congested service routes
  • Firestopping of risers, wall cavities and floor penetrations

All systems were selected to align with the fire strategy and healthcare-specific requirements.

Fire Curtains

To protect large open areas and maintain compartmentation flexibility, CLM installed fire curtains in key locations, providing:

  • Fire and smoke separation in high-traffic zones
  • Protection for atrium interfaces, circulation routes and interconnected spaces
  • Solutions designed for healthcare buildings where open layouts are common
Compartmentation Review & Risk Resolution

CLM carried out detailed reviews of each potential breach in fire separation, including:

  • Assessment of complex service penetrations
  • Identification of non-compliant or unprotected areas
  • Rapid deployment of corrective measures to restore compliance
  • Ongoing coordination with design teams to resolve emerging risks
